![]() If you import the graphics back into the rom, Mario should EXACTLY look like you drew him in YY-CHR. Now, if you load the savestate into YY-CHR, open "AllGFX.bin", scroll down to the Mario frames and cycle through the palettes until you have palette 8, you have highly bigger chances to enjoy the sprite in it's original colors where you can decide whether you like it or not. Click on "Save RGB's to Rom" and make a savestate in any level of your hack. Modify palette 8 to your own wishes, insert all the colors you need, just don't overwrite color 0, it's a "transparent" color. Let me tell you, the best thing you can do is ALWAYS getting the palette first into the game because with the right colors, it's much easier to draw the sprite you wish to, isn't it? I won't work on the pallet until I have all the sprites in and they aren't glitchy looking.Īnyways, what do you think? Any protips? I am starting to get the hang of it, had to draw (or remaneuver) some of Mario's sprites, such as the flying one and the sliding one.the aren't bad though, I just hate how I lost some quality in making them accessable. Obviously still in it's alpha stages, I have a lot of work to do to get these sprites looking more how I want them. But still, I had to change all of SSS's sprites to match the colors used in SMW. That made replacing the sprites much easier. Well, after a little while I realized it had a c/p screenshot function, and utilized that. Lolz ensued at the garbled graphics and yellow block that kind of resembled Mario. I popped open paint that had Super Star Saga (SSS) sprites in it, carefully selected the pixels I'd use for Mario's standing up sprite, and replaced them. bin file forever, I found Mario's sprites down there, and pooped a little when I saw how disassembled they were. So, I got YY CHR and of course was like WTF when I first opened the allgfx.bin. For some reason I was hung up on the idea that the sprites were different from the other graphics used in the game. Ok! Well after making this post yesterday, I thought I'd do some more research and I realized that I could use YY CHR to edit Mario's sprite. I hope this helped you a little bit, feel free to ask if you still have questions. Make a savestate in any level with Zsnes and load it into YY-CHR and tada!! You have the new colors. Make sure, that the option "Enable Custom Palette" under "Level" is unchecked, edit the colors you wish to and click on "Save RGB Values". Palette 8 has the colors used by Mario (and Peach). Well, this involves palette editing which can be done in Lunar Magic aswell by clicking on the blue star in the toolbar. Now you may wish to change the colors you can make an entirely new Mario character with brand new colors. If you edited "AllGFX.bin", that option must be checked otherwise the graphics won't change. Don't forget: If you edit the GFX apart from each other (aka "GFX00", "GFX01" and so on), you must make sure that the "Use joined GFX Files" option is unchecked. It covers most YY-CHR basics which are kinda needed.Īfter you're done with editing the GFX, save them and import them in Lunar Magic via the green mushroom. I may suggest to read Pac's Graphics Tutorial. Cycling through palettes can be done with the black arrows on the right. You are now able to view the graphics with the right colors. In YY-CHR, click on the cartridge symbol at the top-right and choose your savestate to import it. There's an easy fix for this, just download Zsnes (a very good emulator with many functions) and make a savestate in any level from your hack. (Don't forget setting the mode to "4BPP SNES" in the dropdown boy at the bottom unless you don't want to see garbled graphics) Open the file "AllGFX.bin" with it, alternatively you can open "GFX32.bin" aswell which is basically the same, but holds just the Mario frames. Now you have to download a graphics editing program, I suggest YY-CHR, one of the best graphics editors out here. "Options -> Use joined GFX files" will do it.Įxport and re-import follows on the previous step which gives you a file called "AllGFX.bin" found in the "Graphics" folder aswell. Now the best thing to do is unchecking a specific option to get the graphics files apart from each other. Noticed the new folder called "Graphics" that got created at the same location as your rom? You see the standart four colored mushrooms in the toolbar? Those are for exporting/importing GFX and ExGFX.Ĭlick on the red one to export the GFX and now click on the green one to re-import it. If so, read this, it may be useful to you.įirst thing you have to do is opening your rom in Lunar Magic. Oh and i am also looking for M&L SSS Mario Sprites.Īnyways, supposing from how I understood your question, you're looking for help modifying the Mario graphics, right? I'm pretty sure there is a guide to ripping from sprite sheets on the the stickies.
